Discover The Listening Table – an open invitation to connect, be heard, and share without judgment.

A Simple Table, A Profound Invitation

Imagine walking past a small table in a park, a street corner, or a community event. On it, a handwritten sign reads: “Here to Listen – No Judgment, No Advice, No Charge.”
This is The Listening Table, an initiative by Orly Israel that transforms ordinary public spaces into havens of connection. It’s more than a table – it’s a living reminder of the power of human presence.

The Origin of The Listening Table

In November 2021, after volunteering in prisons and crisis hotlines, Orly realized that listening shouldn’t be confined to specific programs – it should be part of everyday life.
Armed with nothing more than a folding grey table and a willingness to be fully present, he began inviting strangers to sit, speak, and be heard. No interruptions, no opinions – just deep, compassionate listening.

Why It Matters

We live in a world where many feel unseen and unheard. Technology connects us instantly, yet genuine human connection can feel rare.
The Listening Table offers something profoundly simple: a safe space to share your heart – whether it’s joy, grief, confusion, or hope – without fear of judgment or advice.

How It Works

The beauty of The Listening Table lies in its simplicity:

  • Find a spot – A park, a street corner, a school courtyard, or an event.
  • Invite openly – A visible sign welcomes anyone to sit down.
  • Listen fully – The listener is there only to hold space, not to respond with solutions.
  • Let the speaker lead – People share for as little as five minutes or as long as they need.

A Global Movement of Presence

What started as one table has now grown into a worldwide movement:

  • Dozens of Listening Tables have been hosted globally.
  • Hundreds of heartfelt conversations have taken place, with countless lives touched.
  • The initiative has inspired others to become ambassadors and bring Listening Tables to their own communities.

The Impact – For the Speaker and the Listener

For the speaker, the impact can be immediate – a lighter heart, a clearer mind, and the sense of being truly seen.
For the listener, it’s a deep practice of empathy, patience, and humility – learning to resist the urge to “fix” and instead offer the gift of presence.

Bringing The Listening Table to Your Community

You don’t have to wait for one to appear – you can create one. Orly offers guidance on how to start, and the Power of Listening Foundation encourages anyone who resonates with this vision to explore bringing it into their own communities.

Why We Feature The Listening Table at the Power of Listening Foundation

At the Power of Listening Foundation, we believe listening is not just a skill – it’s a gift that can change lives. The Listening Table mirrors our mission to foster understanding, connection, and compassion in the world. By highlighting it, we hope to inspire more spaces – both physical and emotional – where people can be truly heard.

An Invitation to Listen

Perhaps the next time you sit down for coffee with a friend, stand in line at the store, or join a community gathering, you might silently extend the same invitation: “I’m here to listen.”
Because sometimes, what someone needs most is simply to be heard.
